I was walking through the aisles of my local thrift store the other day, and a baby onesie with a Halloween pattern caught my eye. That little spark of inspiration lead me to stocking up on various clothing items (fabric hoarding, as it were), so that I can cut up and repurpose  all of this material for sewing projects -- and I'd been wanting to upcycle some old jeans, anyway.

I took an old paisley blouse, cut it up with my rotary knife, ironed it onto some medium-weight fusible interfacing, safety pinned the fabric unto the cuff of my jeans, and whip-stitched everything into place.

My stitching isn't perfect, but I'm also embracing a loose, "quilty" sort of aesthetic. And if a lifetime of practice as a multimedia creative has taught me anything, it's that practice ensures incremental progress. What's more -- In an age where everything is propelled by digital media, it's satisfying to see something that looks hand-made.

As for the Halloween baby onesie...that's a story for another blog!
